It is thought that the human body consists of several layers of energy making up our energy field which is where we store our mental, physical, spiritual and emotional characteristics. Scientists are now certain that this energy field exists and when physical injury or emotional pain occurs it can cause an energy stagnation resulting in different stresses and illnesses. Reiki works by helping the flow of energy around the body and thereby removing energy blockages, which in turn helps to heal the body and the mind; it is not dissimilar to reflexology and acupuncture in that sense.
My Reiki journey began about 18 years ago when I ‘accidentally’ came across it at a Wellbeing fair. I had never heard of it before and decided to give it a was one of the most relaxing and thought provoking treatments I have ever had and I knew it was going to be part of my life from that moment on.

What to expect from a Reiki treatment:
Reiki can be performed anywhere in either lying or sitting positions but I tend to work so that you are lying down on a couch where possible as this gives you the opportunity to rest and switch off from the world outside. You will be made comfortable and warm and I will lay my hands on you in a series of non-intrusive positions moving from your head and down the front of your body, occasionally I may need to work on your back also. There is no massage or manipulation and I can use the floating hand technique if you prefer. The positive life force energy is channelled through my hands and into your energy field. Most people find they drift off into a deep relaxing and peaceful state, some people see colours and experience sensations such as heat or tingling but this is an individual experience.

Reiki can be used alongside other conventional or complementary treatment and often helps to provide emotional support during recovery.
